Mustard Seed Grant—2025 Nigerian Urantia Book Conference

Editor’s Note: Emeka, on behalf of the Urantia Peace Initiative, was a recipient of the first round of Mustard Seed Grant awards in 2025—his third grant. The following article is excerpted from his report on their recent conference in Lagos. The theme was “The Religion of Jesus.”
Interest in The Urantia Book continues to surge in Nigeria. Our third annual conference since 2023 drew 89 participants, including readers from the northern cities of Kaduna and Kano—signaling potential expansion into Nigeria's predominantly Muslim regions. The organic growth from a simple introduction to a vibrant fellowship reflects genuine grassroots interest.
The theme of this year’s conference emphasized living the religion of Jesus, and the presentations were carefully chosen to further the aims of last year’s event. By incorporating a rich tapestry of Nigerian religions and philosophies, we provided fertile ground for many curious and spiritually inclined individuals to relish the unique perspectives presented by The Urantia Book.
The Third Annual Nigerian Urantia Book Conference took place on September 5–6, 2025. Highlights included a meeting with 15 leaders from various Nigerian Urantia study groups and inspiring talks on complex spiritual topics by several teenage presenters. This intergenerational approach suggests sustainability beyond the founding leadership.
Our strategy of encouraging cultural integration was exemplified by an Ubuntu presentation, which connected Urantia teachings with indigenous African philosophy rather than imposing Western spiritual frameworks. This “cultural bridge” approach contributes to broader acceptance of the teachings.
Live instrumental music throughout the event created a devotional atmosphere rather than a purely academic. The event concluded with renewed commitment to living the truths of The Urantia Book, fostering unity and service, and revealing the Father's love through the example of Jesus' living faith.
On behalf of the Urantia Peace Initiative, I am grateful for the generous support from the Mustard Seed Grant Program which helped make this conference possible.
