What is The Urantia Book?

The Urantia Book is a compilation of 196 papers which presents us with the origin, history, and destiny of humanity. It answers questions about God, life in the inhabited universe, the history and future of this world, and it includes an uplifting narrative of the life and teachings of Jesus.

The Urantia Book portrays our relationship with God the Father. All human beings are the sons and daughters of a loving God and therefore brothers and sisters in the family of God. The book provides new spiritual truth for modern men and women and a pathway to a personal relationship with God.

Building on the world's religious heritage, The Urantia Book describes an endless destiny for humankind, teaching that living faith is the key to personal spiritual progress and eternal survival. It also describes God’s plan for the progressive evolution of individuals, human society, and the universe as a whole.

Who wrote The Urantia Book?

Much speculation exists about the physical origins of The Urantia Book. Information about the specific identities of those involved in this process and the exact mechanics of how the book was transmitted was wisely withheld in order to prevent any undue regard for these individuals and the book's origins. The true value of The Urantia Book lies not so much in its origins as in the spirit content of its message.

A more important question is why it was written. The Urantia Book endeavors “to expand cosmic consciousness and enhance spiritual perception.” 0:0.2 (1.2)

Is The Urantia Book a religion?

While The Urantia Book contains information about world religions, it purports that “true religion is a matter of personal spiritual experience.” 99:5.7 (1091.6) The personal religion of one’s inner life can be nurtured within most religious institutions, or independent of any institutions.

What is Urantia Foundation?

Urantia Foundation was established in 1950 as the original publisher of The Urantia Book. Operating under a Declaration of Trust, with a mission to seed the book and its teachings globally, the Foundation is entrusted with publication, translation, sales and distribution, education, and outreach programs. Where is Urantia Foundation located?

Urantia Foundation has its headquarters in a historic Greystone building in the lovely Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, United States. Built in 1908, it was originally the home and offices of Drs William and Lena Sadler. The building was bequeathed to the Foundation in 1969.
